Dale D. Anderson
Dale D. Anderson, 71 of Sterling, CO passed away on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at his home just north of Sterling. A memorial service celebrating Dale’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 23, at Christ United Methodist Church with a luncheon to follow. 
Dale was born in Lexington, Nebraska on December 3, 1947 to George and Verna (Larsen) Anderson. He attended school in Lexington, graduating in 1966 and he went on to attend Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, graduating in 1969. This is where he met the love of his life, Virginia “Ginny” Rieke. They were married on December 20, 1970 and began their life together just north of Sterling. During this busy time Dale also served in the National Guard and was honorably discharged in 1975.
As Dale and Ginny took on the task of farm life, they gave birth to two sons, Brad and Cory. As years of plowing, planting, setting tubes and changing water came and went, Dale and Ginny started up their next business venture. They purchased a truck and trailer and Dale hit the road with Dalgin Trucking. All the while making countless friends and connections, he then went on to sell seed corn.
Dale was an avid Nebraska Husker fan and enjoyed watching the Denver Broncos, Colorado Avalanche and the Colorado Rockies any chance he could. In earlier years, he enjoyed playing slow pitch softball and the church bowling league. Dale was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, lifetime member of the Sterling Elks Lodge #1336, lifetime member of OIDA, Young Farmers and Odd Fellows & Rebekahs. Dale also served on the board of the Sterling 1 Irrigation Company.
Dale is survived by his wife Ginny; sons Brad and wife Michelle and Cory and special friend Wendi; his only grandson Dylan; sister Marilyn Perkins and husband Larry; brother Gary Anderson and wife Ann; brothers-in-law Paul Schroeder and Vic Schroeder; sister-in-law Margaret Sprenger and husband Greg and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents George and Verna Anderson, mother and father-in- laws Virgil and Marjorie Rieke and sister-in-law Lynn Schroeder.
Contributions may be made to the Dale Anderson Memorial Fund, which will be distributed among Christ United Methodist Church and Hospice of the Plains.
James Damm
James Damm, 71, of Apollo Beach, Florida, passed away on March 22, 2020 in Florida after a short illness with cancer.
He was born March 24, 1948 in Minden, Nebraska to Ezra and Doris Damm. His family moved to Lexington in 1965 and he graduated from Lexington High School with the class of 1966. He then went on to further is education by attending Kearney State College.
He was united in marriage on July 4, 1968 to Carleen Smith. One son was blessed to this marriage: Greggory. James worked several years at Monroe Tenneco Automotive in Cozad before moving to California for a better life, which they found when James starting working for State Farm. With his job, they lived in California, Illinois and Florida. He retired in Florida and resided there until his passing.
Survivors include his wife, Carleen Damm of Apollo Beach, Florida; his son, Greggory (Jennifer) of Charlotte, North Carolina; grandsons, Mason and Gavin of Charlotte, North Carolina; sister, Judy (Randy) Chapman of Lexington; sisters-in-law, Barbara (Lyle) Roberts of Lexington, Joan (Randy) Dethlefs of Kearney, Peggy (Tom) Kjar of Cozad and Kathy (Jody) Van Cleave of Omaha; brothers-in-law, Danny (Cindi) Smith of Lexington and Jerry (Jill) Smith of Lexington; also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
James was preceded in death by his parents.
There will be no visitation, or memorial book signing. The family is honoring James wish for cremation.
Burial will be held at a later date.

Jay Dillard
Jay Patton Dillard, 63, of Ashland, Nebraska, died Saturday, March 17, 2012, at BryanLGH East Medical Center in Lincoln, Nebraska.
He was born June 14, 1948, in Lexington, Nebraska to Jehu J. “Jack” and Dorothy R. (Redell) Dillard.
Jay was a 1966 graduate of Lexington High School and the Wentworth Military Academy in Independence, Missouri, graduating as a 2nd Lieutenant. He then went onto further his education at Mississippi State University. Following college, Jay returned to Lexington and worked for his father at Nebraska Alfalfa Farms.
As Jay’s health declined, he eventually moved to the Ashland Care Center in Ashland, Nebraska, where he was residing at the time of his death.
He is survived by two brothers: Brian Dillard of Axtell, Nebraska Brad (Avis) Dillard of Johnson Lake, Nebraska Two nephews: Jason Dillard of Kearney, Nebraska John Dillard of Lincoln, Nebraska.
Jay was preceded in death by his parents.
It was Jay’s wishes that his body be cremated. There will be a private inurnment at Greenwood Cemetery in Lexington, Nebraska at a later date. Jim Hanson
Dr. James A. “Jim” Hanson of Omaha died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2019 at his home in Omaha.
A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, Nov. 10, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the Countryside Community Church , 13130 Faith Plaza, Omaha.
Jim was born May 20, 1948 in Lexington to Howard A. Sr. and Marie W. (Galbraith) Hanson. Jim attended Pershing School and graduated from Lexington High School with the class of 1966.
Jim was baptized and confirmed in the First Presbyterian Church and also received his Eagle Scout Award in the Presbyterian Church. Jim was inducted into honor Society in high school and was in Photography Club. Jim and Ford McDonald were selected to attend Boy’s State. Jim Hanson was the only student in 1966 to represent Lexington in All State Band. Jim was known also for his outstanding music ability, with his outstanding gift to play the trumpet. Jim had a chance to receive an outstanding music scholarship to Colorado for a music career. He loved his music but his first love was in building. While in high school he worked with his father, Howard A. Hanson Sr. in his construction business. Jim also loved football and he and Tom Stuckey were All Conference representatives for Lexington.
After High School Jim attended Kearney State College, graduating in 1970 with a degree in Industrial Arts. He also played on the Loper football team. He lettered all four years in his football career, earning a special award.
While teaching in Omaha he met love of his life, Beverly Gosch. They were married March 30, 1974 in Omaha. They decided to move to Lexington, where Jim taught in the Lexington High School in Industrial Arts and assisted his father Howard A. Hanson Sr. in building homes. While teaching Jim implemented the first home built by high school students and that home still stands in Lexington. Jim believed in all his students and loved to teach and coach. He wanted his students to be the best they could and if they could not go to college to teach them a building career that not only to build to be a master craftsman. To show his belief in his students he implemented at end of school year, a student who showed a promise of a master craftsman he gave an Award of the golden hammer award in memory of his father Howard A Hanson Sr., the award went on for several years and hung in Industrial Arts room at LHS.
Jim loved school, teaching and went on to further his education and teaching and building and received his doctorate, after which he taught trustees from Prison. When Jim retired he loved to teach and continued substitute teaching until the past year when his health prevented him from teaching.
Dr. Hanson is survived by sons, Joel Hanson, Jeff Hanson, and daughter, Melissa (Mike) Bolton; grandchildren, Coltyln Bolton, Bernadette Bolton, Josh Hanson, Jodi Hanson; great-grandchildren, Willy Winston, Adon Hanson, all of Omaha; sister, Sheri (Otis) Ward, Lexington, nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife Beverly , February 2007, parents, siblings and their spouses, Colleen (John) Caldwell, Howard Jr. (Ann) Hanson, father-in-law Merlin Gosch, besides several of his wife's brothers and sisters.
As Jim was kind, caring, his laugh and a good time many will remember, but he left his mark many places with his God-given talent of a love of his students and family and also as a Master Craftsman. The Hanson brothers and their father left their craftsman skills in Lexington by the many homes they built, and left a trade to students So they may carry on as their master was a carpenter so were Jim, Howard Jr. Howard Sr. Hanson also being a four generation of Hanson’s in Dawson County, Nebraska You found your rainbow Jim. written by, Sister Sheri

Bill Holen
William (Bill) Kenneth Holen 73 of Cozad passed away Oct. 14, 2021 at home after being placed on hospice care for a short time.
He was born June 4, 1948, in Kearney Nebraska to the late Kenneth William & Lucille Ann (Miller) Holen.
He attended grade school in Bertrand through the third grade. Then moved to Lexington with his family, where he graduated from Lexington High School with the class of 1966.
At the age of fifteen, after telling his parents he was going to the movie in Lexington he went to Plainville, Kansas to ride his first bull. Needless to say his Mother was waiting at the door for him when he arrived home about 4 hours after the movie was over. Thus began the next ten years of rodeo. His highest accolade was to win the Tri State Championship for bull riding, Nebraska, Kansas and Oklahoma.
On May 17, 1969, Bill Married Nancy L. Rouse at United Methodist Church in Denver Colorado. He enjoyed traveling and visited most of the 50 states and Vancouver Canada with friends, Lee and Karen Shafer and Bruce and Patty Bader whom they crisscrossed the country with. Over 45 of those years Bill enjoyed getting their families together for Thanksgiving and Easter dinners at their home, sometimes with as many as 40 attending. He loved playing nickel dime quarter poker with his family at Harry and Sook’s at Johnson Lake. Growing up in land locked Nebraska Bill was all about rodeo, and meat and potatoes. After marriage he learned to salt water fish and crab on the James River and Chesapeake Bay in Virginia. The seafood never replaced beef but the saltwater fish, Blue Crab, Oysters & Clams all ran second place. He loved spending time at the family cottage in Virginia, getting to know Nancy’s family and making lifelong friends there too. Last but not least he loved Nebraska Football and Volleyball.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Lucille Holen, brother-in-law, Jerry Bryan, nephew, David Bryan and In-laws Harry & Marion (Sook) Rouse.
Bill is survived by his wife of 52 years (Nancy), three sisters; Susan Bryan of Lexington, NE. Sandra (Tim) Johnson of Omaha, NE. and Patricia Holen of Overland Park, KS. One Daughter, Shelby Forrester (Chris Votaw) of Oconto, NE, two sons; Shawn Holen and Mike Lisa (Schmidt) Holen of Cozad, NE., five grandchildren; Robert Forrester of Broken Bow, NE., Chase & (Tori) Forrester of Kearney, NE., Kiera Holen, Lisa Holen and Alec Holen of Cozad, NE., four Nieces, one nephew as well as extended family and many friends.
A celebration of life will be held Sunday, October 17, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.
Inurnment will be at a later date in the Robb Cemetery, south of Lexington.
Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the Shriners Children’s Hospital.
