Mary Strohmyer
Mary Strohmyer was born on October 15, 1946, in Lexington, Nebraska, to Carl William and Lillian “Dilly” Ourada Strohmyer. She was the second of five children and the only daughter. She passed away on December 27, 2024, at her home in Oakland, Nebraska.
Mary graduated from St. Ann’s High School in Lexington in 1964. She briefly attended Kearney State College and resided in Hyannis, Nebraska. She held various jobs, from café cook to childcare. 
In her 40s Mary went back to college and graduated in 1999 from the University of Nebraska at Kearney with a degree in Elementary Education. She taught in Macy, Nebraska, and substituted until her retirement from teaching.
Mary lived a quiet life and preferred to stay in the background, helping where she could. She adored the Lyons community and her friends and neighbors. She loved word puzzles, cards, crafting and watching the Hallmark channel. Mary was an avid reader. She loved teaching children to read and fostered the love of books.
Mary worked at the Lyons Library until her death. She loved story time and the summer reading programs. Mary enjoyed providing snacks and decorations at her beloved library.
Mary’s faith was very important to her. She was active in St. Joseph Catholic Church, where she attended regularly and served on several committees, including the Altar Society. She was a lectern and taught CCD for many years.
Mary’s pride and joy were her many nieces and nephews. She was generous and kind - always bringing a bag of treats, toys, books and more for them and their pets.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Harry and Richard Strohmyer.
She is survived by brothers, Randy (Gail) Strohmyer and Jeff (Lisa) Strohmyer; sister-in-law, Jaunetta (Harry) Sailors Strohmyer; nieces and nephews: Chelsi (Mark) Wilson, Mandy (Tim Revel, Carl Strohmyer, Heidi Strohmyer, Dan (Karin) Strohmyer, Katie (Jesse) Kincheloe, Brinton (Amber) Strohmyer, Natalie (Ben) Wichelt, Jessica Strohmyer (Walker Brown), Michael Strohmyer and Rebekah Strohmyer and 11 great nieces and nephews.
